Or Game Jam pains

Read to the end for a good döner video

GameBoy Jam 12

Back in September a group from my discord server - including my partner and I -participated in GBJam12. This is one of the biggest pixel art focused game jams - an event in which you create a video game from start to finish in a set period of time (here ten days). This includes the concept, music, graphics, writing, programming, etc. The GameBoy Jam has some bonus restrictions - the game has to be 160 × 144 pixels, 4 colours maximum, and only have the same controls as the original GameBoy.

Our game’s cover image! Due to time constraints, I personally made all the art in this screenshot, but we had other artists contribute to the project

As with all game jams, I had a ton of fun until I got my ass handed to me by the final day crunch. My partner (lead programmer) and I (lead artist) spent 12 hours straight locked in our room until we made something functional, which meant many features and team contributions sadly didn’t make it into the submission. Once we’ve mentally recovered (6 weeks has not yet been enough) we will give the game another shot and try to add the originally planned features.

If you’d like to play our game, you can do so here (for free ofc). It’s a top down game about a cat that runs around its sleeping owner all night and chases little monsters away from them. I’m quite proud of our final score (below) for something we barely managed to finish!

Out of 397 entries? Not bad.

New Gaming Series - Professor Layton 2

I still have a few pigeon dating videos to edit (playlist), but to switch things up a bit I’ve start editing some Layton 2 playthroughs as well. If you’d like to follow along on what could arguably be a more ridiculous story than the Pigeon Dating Simulator, please check out this new series! The children’s puzzles are surprisingly difficult.

Community Shoutout - NOP_Pixels

If follow the pixel art community at all, you’ve probably already heard of Nop, whose avatar wears a crown for good reason. Nop makes outstanding dioramas and animations, and had just reached the amazing milestone of 100k followers on Twitter! Check out his Twitch streams if you haven’t yet, especially if you’re a francophone (I am not, still great).

Thanks reading until the end! Here’s a great döner video
